She has also received numerous awards: the Arts and Design Award from the Smithsonian National Museum of the American Indian board of directors, the “Taos Citizen of the Year Award”, the “Eugene Crawford Memorial Peace Pipe Award,” and many other awards at SWAIA Indian Market such as 1st Place in Garments and 1st Place in Contemporary Fashion in 2011.
I was overwhelmed meeting Michaels. Despite all the accolades and awards she has was won, she was humble and welcoming. I think I speak for all the models when I say she made each of us feel important, appreciated and like we were a part of something bigger than ourselves or even the show itself.
